FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
2008/2009 Calendar Features Beautiful and Talented women who are positive role models to young girls and their communities
Vancouver, BC November 12, 2007 – BT Girls Native American Women’s Calendar is excited to announce that the release of the BT Girls Native American Women’s Calendar will be on March 1, 2008. The BT Girls Native American Women’s Calendar is one of the most diverse calendars to hit the industry. The Calendar is the very first of its kind, showcasing First Nations women in high fashion and glamorous imagery.
A team of beautiful and talented models and top industry professionals are working together to produce sophisticated imagery of fashion and glamorous editorials. The calendar also pays homage to women that are positive role models to their communities and to the younger generation. The calendar is being created to showcase the beauty and talent of the women in this calendar to the world through mainstream fashion and modeling. The style of the calendar is the equivalent with popular high fashion magazines, but very much encompasses its own unique flavor, giving it a greater edge.
BT Girls Calendar: Native American Women’s Calendar 2008/2009 is a sixteen month calendar and will be for sale for the modest price of $20.00 each. Twelve models have been selected to model with The Baker Twins for their first 2008/2009 calendar. Each model will be featured with The Baker Twins in one month of the calendar.
“Every year we get asked to do a collaboration calendar with different models and different companies. We remember what it was like to want to be a model and how impossible that dream seemed to be. The world doesn’t realize how many beautiful and talented Native Women there are in this world. First Nations people may not account for a large population of Turtle Island, but we do exist. Each week we receive emails from aspiring models that expresses their desire to want to become a model. If we are going to do any type of collaboration we are first going to do it with our own people.” co-creator of the calendar, Shauna Baker said.
Co-creator, Shannon Baker, continued: “Our main objective in producing this calendar is to showcase the beauty and talent of First Nations people through imagery to the mainstream market. When many people think of Native American people they immediately think of the westernized image of First Nations people that has been long depicted in Hollywood movies. Many people do not know that many First Nations people are successful doctors, lawyers, teachers, actors, models, etc. In the media, there is almost no portrayal of First Nations people living in the present day. The world needs to stop stereotyping First Nations people and start showing this through the media, and that is what we are doing with this calendar.”
THE CREATORS:
BT Girls Native American Women’s Calendar is distinctive in that the calendar was started by two sisters who wanted to combine their experience of working in the entertainment industry and their experience as entrepreneurs to create a calendar that showcased the beauty and talent of First Nations people through imagery to the mainstream market.
